LAIDA ALDAZ ARRIETA is a multidisciplinary artist, in many cases self-taughted and with a special interest in the hybridization of the arts. Her creations are focused on the relationship between the body and the space; they are often created in non-stage spaces, reinterpreting them, giving them another meaning and turning them into stage settings. Her curiosity has led her to co-create, direct and produce works in different fields. Throughout her career she has dance with multiple choreographers and artists and teaches at international schools and festivals.
She is director of the cultural association El Trastero Creativo and Zinetika Festival, where the relationships between dance, film and new technologies are explored, and co-director of La Faktoria Choreographic Center.
El Trastero Creativo is an association born from the need to promote dance and to expand and strengthen contemporary dance education in Navarra. It promotes cultural exchange and creation of multidisciplinary projects. It was created in 2015 and since then most of the projects that Laida Aldaz has carried out have been made through this entity.
What is an artistic residency?
Floorwork
The goal of this class is for dancers to learn to use the floor by connecting and interacting with gravity, weight shifts, rolling, jumping, and dissolving into it.
Partnering
We will explore how to find the points of contact and weightlessness with other bodies. To learn how to touch and let ourselves be touched, using other bodies to move our own.
Site specific, city in creation
We take to the streets and create within the city. We observe our surroundings and use them as inspiration for our creative activity and we take into account the urban spatial composition itself to decide where, how and what we want to create. We will make a choreographic composition for a specific place inspired by what the space itself transmits or needs.
